Engelbert Humperdinck’s ever-popular take on the classic Grimm’s fairytale, presented with the OperaEd signature blend of narration, spoken dialogue and - of course - incredible music.
What’s the story?
Siblings Hansel and Gretel are sent out into the forest to find food for their family - but they soon get lost. They find a house made of gingerbread, sweets and chocolate! They are so hungry that they start eating the house, but soon they are found by the witch who lives there. The witch puts Gretel to work in the kitchen, while feeding Hansel to fatten him up. Gretel realises there are lots of gingerbread children that the witch has baked before, trapped in the house. Gretel comes up with a plan to trick the witch - she and Hansel team up and push her into the oven! Then they free themselves and all the other gingerbread children too.
